چکیده

In this essay it will be shown that Decoherence Model and Einstein Equivalence Principle are conceptually incompatible. In other words, assuming only the validity of the Weak Equivalence Principle the present work concludes that we face two possibilities: (i) if Decoherence Model provides a correct description of nature at quantum level, then there are systems which violate Local Position Invariance, or, (ii) if all the postulates behind Einstein Equivalence Principle are valid, even on quantum realm, then Decoherence Model breaks down in curved spacetimes. Finally, the present results are confronted against Schiff’s conjecture. email: [email protected] This essay received an “honorable mention” in the 2001 Essay Competition of the Gravity Research Foundation–Ed.

New test of the Einstein equivalence principle and the isotropy of space.

Recent research has established that nonsymmetric gravitation theories like Moffat’s NGT predict that a gravitational field singles out an orthogonal pair of polarization states of light that propagate with different phase velocities. We show that a much wider class of nonmetric theories encompassed by the χg formalism predict such violations of the Einstein equivalence principle. This gravity-...

Equivalence principle and bound kinetic energy.

We consider the role of the internal kinetic energy of bound systems of matter in tests of the Einstein equivalence principle. Using the gravitational sector of the standard model extension, we show that stringent limits on equivalence principle violations in antimatter can be indirectly obtained from tests using bound systems of normal matter. We estimate the bound kinetic energy of nucleons i...

An Investigation of Equivalence Principle Violations Using Solar Neutrino Oscillations in a Constant Gravitational Potential

Neutrino oscillations induced by a flavor–dependent violation of the Einstein Equivalence Principle (VEP) have been recently considered as a suitable explanation of the solar νe deficiency. Unlike the MSW oscillation mechanism, the VEP mechanism is dependent on a coupling to the local background gravitational potential Φ. We investigate the differences which arise by considering three–flavor VE...

Closing the Neutrinoless Double Beta Decay Window into Violations of the Equivalence Principle and/or Lorentz Invariance

We have examined Lorentz invariance and equivalence principle violations in the neutrino sector as manifested in neutrinoless double beta decay. We conclude that this rare decay cannot provide a useful view of these exotic processes.

Probing Quantum Violations of the Equiva - lence Principle

The joint realm of quantum mechanics and the general-relativistic description of gravitation is becoming increasingly accessible to terrestrial experiments and observations. In this essay we study the emerging indications of the violation of equivalence principle (VEP). While the solar neutrino anomaly may find its natural explanation in a VEP, the statistically significant discrepancy observed...
